Bible Journaling - Is it for you?

A friend just told me that “the Lord is most certainly moving in your heart to spread the good news!” And I replied “My life...been doing this for some time.  God is awesome and I want everyone to know it!  Rooftops!”

I just don’t know how to stop?  I love encouraging people!

I have just recently been noticing how much more patiently I am waiting in doctor’s offices than I used to.  This, to me, is amazing.  I was so happy when I got an iPhone because it is the first one that I’ve learned to play on and it helped me to be patient waiting in places.  Yet I still did face some issues with impatience at times.  Today, a timer went off at the chiropractors office to signal the return of the technician and I just closed my eyes again, relaxing.  That is new for me!  Ah, God is working!  He is always working on me!  I am forever being blessed by Him.  And, I believe that this new found patience can actually be attributed to my newer found practice of Bible Journaling and the hours that it temps me away to spend with Jesus.

Do you need a good stress reliever?  Do you just want to find out more about it? Then check out Tracie Rollins at BibleJournalingMinistries.com
https://www.biblejournalingministries.com/bible-journaling-classes/  You can just investigate!  Is this for you?  Do you know someone who might benefit from this?  And, if you are on Facebook you can find a whole community of Bible Journaling people in the Bible Journaling for Beginners group.

I have my Journaling Bible that I do more extensive Journaling in.  Then I have my “Inspire Psalms” book that I do basically coloring in (for when I don’t have the time or space for a mess).  See examples below:

Depression?

I am reading daily devotionals from You Version Bible on my iPhone (If you have an iPhone just search for You Version. Our pastor uses it for the sermon notes. It’s very good. Many devotionals, too!. This one came to me last week so I sent it to myself to write about:

“Psalms 25:15-20 “My eyes are ever toward the Lord, For He shall pluck my feet out of the net. Turn yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses! Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins. Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred. Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.”

This keeps coming to mind this morning. I recall reading it last week and remembering how I was told by several people and read also that if you are having trouble with depression that reading Psalms is very helpful. Reason? David is known to have had to suffer some depression. Can you honestly tell me after reading the above that he didn’t? Yet David is said to be a man after God’s own heart! I believe it’s due to David being honest with Him so it testifies to their relationship!

I’ve done it in the past and it does really work! Since being healed from the extended illness and further delivered from depression I have learned to view life a bit differently so that I just don’t seem to go into anything more than a few days or so feeling depressed instead of going into an extended depression. Reading Psalms does help me, also. But I believe God has shown me that no matter how lousy my day is, I can ALWAYS find someone who is having a worse one!

My mother used to just get disgusted with me being so positive so much of the time. I came up with reason after reason which I know are still truths! My life has been one with numerous depressions, attempted suicides, etc… and for one I trust and believe in God’s word in this:

*2 Corinthians 1:4 “who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

On top of all of this I believe that God just revealed to me recently a promise from Him that I hadn’t noticed before. After these approx. 7 years of being delivered from such debilitating deep depressions over a good 35-40 years of my life, I was led back to the first time that I spoke in front of a group. It was a Bible study when I was in prison (don’t ever put anything past the Lord cause I said God would never use me to speak in front of others. I think it took maybe 6 weeks before He proved me wrong) that had never had a speaker before. My closest girlfriend in there was in the audience. After it was over she called me out of my cell that evening and shared:

Isaiah 61: 1-3 ““The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

(Yes, I know this is about Jesus.) She shared with me that I’d spoken about all the things in this passage. I bawled like a baby.

But even more lately I’ve been reminded of the positivity of this passage and especially “To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning”. I have been saved out of the depression so that I may share His comfort with others! I now know that I actually have trouble thinking negatively due to the promises that He has given me! All praise and glory to Jesus!

SOAKING

No matter what I do this morning I just can’t seem to get rid of the idea of writing about this subject that came to me a couple of hours ago.  So, here I am sharing my views on this and the fact that I do soak now and then for a few minutes up to even 30 minutes or longer.  What’s the reason(s) that I do it?  To spend quality time with God, to surrender to the Holy Spirit, to stop and focus on the right things, to stop and “smell the roses”, to just say “woe”, etc… I started to list them and then realized there are numerous reasons and why not?  I mean, He is God and spending quality time with Him can definitely be no less than beneficial.

How do I do this?  Well, I’m normally in my desk chair in my computer room/studio so I sit back and relax, arms on the rests, palms facing upward and I listen to some good Christian music such as, to suggest just a few:

          Not Alone              Red
          Holy                      Matt Gilman
          Our Great God       Todd Agnew
          Baptize My Heart   Misty Edwards

And there are many, many other awesome songs to soak to, or you might even do a search at www.google.com for the word “soaking” and do some of your own research.  This has been very beneficial to me in my growth as a Christian.

One of my favorites that I have found quite beneficial to my own health and well being is Light of Your Face by Misty Edwards.  :

A Weekend To Talk About Part 1 - 2012

I had been home all week so when Saturday came I was ready to get out and run a few errands. Springtime in Florida is just glorious especially in our area with so much water all around. And to think that my husband told me when I married him that he’d never live in Florida. I thought I’d given up a dream since I grew up visiting here yearly since one of my Grandpa’s lived here. Most of my good childhood memories came from visits here. Not long after we moved here I believe that God showed me the scriptures:

*Psalm 37:4-5
“Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.”

And the many glorious days of a Florida Spring are what many of us think are such a worthwhile part of living here.

As I headed down 41 towards the Desoto Bridge over the Manatee River that is the only thing separating our little town of just 12,000 from the swelled tourist season of Bradenton, my heart leaped. I could hardly contain the joy inside from the beauty I saw. Once I got across the bridge I had to stop and take a few photos.

Looking from Bradenton across the bridge to Palmetto!
I went on running the errands of the day, then back home to spend the rest at home doing this and that, all the while I had been thinking about and praying about what to do with this Smash Book that I’d had my hubby pick up for me earlier in the week. Michaels had a one day 50% off coupon so I asked him to stop by on his way home from work and pick this up since I’d seen it days before and thought doing one looked to be intriguing. (My definition of a smash book is a kind of “personal” scrapbook where you “smash” in things that you want to remember.)

 I don’t have enough of any one theme from things I do in life to fill up an entire journal since I’ve started throwing away, recycling, and giving away so much more in the last 16 or so months. For me a favorite theme is always God. I decided to make the Smash book on a theme of my God sightings. Since I’m just an old sentimental fool I decided this was a very creative and fun way to have a remembrance of the ways I see God working in my life and it doesn’t take up much space.

 Of course, being the UNIQUE child of God that I know I am this book just couldn’t be plain or merely entitled “God Sightings” so I thought and prayed and thought and prayed and then it came to me. See what you think of my cover?

And I already gave it a first page full of scriptures about seeing God, along with the one scripture that I think encompasses the entire Christian walk:
*Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will bring them to pass.”

If you pay much attention to me and this blog, you’ll know all that I do with my hands! Although I just love all that God has gifted me with it seems to not come without consequence from overuse. To explain, I’ve started having carpal tunnel symptoms in just the last few days. Perplexing, to say the least, when I know I am so inspired by God to create through my art and writing. And I’m still quite perplexed but God has given me a peace about this. I know that He is working all things out for my good (Romans 8:28) but being the doubting human that I can be, I needed a little extra help with this, along with still praying and taking it one day at a time.

Early Sunday morning I was dreaming and dreaming. I hit the snooze and fell quickly back to sleep, dreaming again. I awoke suddenly to see that I’d overslept by 25 minutes. Thankfully a dream had startled me awake. In the dream, I had gone into church, walked into the sanctuary, and our pastor’s wife was sitting behind the drums just slamming out the beats. In the dream, my mouth fell open and I ran back out of the sanctuary wide awake. (I shared this with several people at church including her and this amazing, emboldened, prophetically gifted woman of God told me to not put it past her – what an amazing testimony she is!) Thank the Lord for sending me an alarm clock!

Then, yesterday morning as I was running out the door with my step-son to church I saw this little book lying on my kitchen table that I don’t read nearly as much as I feel that I should. It crossed my mind to pick it up and take it with me. When I got to church there was just a sweet, sweet anointing from the Holy Spirit over the sanctuary. (I so thank the Lord for His gift of discerning of spirits.) He was keeping me so drawn to Him and the purpose at hand: praying, worshipping, Bible reading and eventual greeting of the brethren into church (which has truly just become my heart on Sunday mornings – fits better than a favorite worn in pair of blue jeans! Thank Him and praise Him for bringing me into so many things that amazingly fit me so well. What a loving, insightful creator we have!)

I got situated in our favorite spot (and has been for several years) in the sanctuary and began to read:

“If you learn to trust Me — really trust Me — with your whole being, then nothing can separate you from My Peace. Everything you endure can be put to good use by allowing it to train you in trusting Me. This is how you foil the works of evil, growing in grace through the very adversity that was meant to harm you.

Dear Jesus
My deepest desire is to trust You with my whole being, but trusting does not come easily to me. I have, however, become more open to accepting adversity as a gift from You. Sometimes I just want relief from my difficulties. At other times I am able to receive them as blessings. Help me to allow my problems to train me in trusting You.

Beloved, it helps to have an eternal perspective if your life on earth were all there is, it might be reasonable to run from adversity and seek a life of pleasure. However, your earthly lifespan is minuscule compared with the Glory that awaits you in heaven. A large part of learning to trust Me is viewing your life through this big picture perspective.

Your openness to accepting adversity as blessing shows that you are indeed learning to trust Me more. Your anticipation of good outcomes in the midst of hard times is a profound form of trust.

Remember that the evil one attacks you continually with burning arrows of accusation. If you use your shield of faith skillfully, you can stop those missiles and extinguish their flames. Even if some of the arrows find their mark and wound you, do not despair, I am the Great Physician. My loving Presence can both heal your wounds and train you to trust Me more. When you are wounded, come close to Me and pay attention to My teaching. As you do so, your faith will be strengthened, enabling you to grow in grace and knowledge of Me — the Lord of Peace. (Gen. 50:20, Eph. 6:36, 2 Peter 3:18)”

Excerpt from “Dear Jesus” by Sarah Young

And, I was in awe! God knows me so well! He is not only my awesome creator but also my best friend who knows what I need to hear when I need to hear it! This fits me to a Tee! I’ve shared that I’ve realized for some time that I had trust issues but I also learned that I trust Him to always clear them up and He ALWAYS does!

I have also believed for some time that I’ve been given a ministry of suffering. May sound awful but it’s really not and it does help me to feel needed in this world. In my insufficiency I am able to call upon the Great Physician.

While watching a TV show last evening I leaked. To explain, I cry so easily at the misfortunes, infirmities, hardships (whatever you want to call it) of others. I shared with my husband who always notices my weeping at the very time it starts why this is.

*2 Corinthians 1:4 “Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. “

I have been through so much adversity in my life that I know how so many others feel. And He showed me several years ago that people will come into my path that don’t know Him as I do and will need the comfort that I am able to give ONLY because of Him. One of my closest girlfriends who has been going through quite a bit of health problems would attest to how many times I’ve cried with her. I couldn’t do that if I hadn’t been through so much myself. And, it also helps me to feel so deeply for others since it also causes me to go to God in prayer for them. I can’t stand to not pray for them. And, I always have the fact that His comfort has gotten me through and keeps me going one day at a time. And, because of Him and His promises I know that this time on earth is Only temporary.

An additional thing to note: In listening to the sermon at church yesterday, the pastor shared that we need to have things to help us remember the amazing things that God has done. My “I See God” smash book?

Even more revelation came to me regarding healing and afflictions after this weekend which I will share in a Part 2 of this writing since it is getting so long.

What a memorable weekend and this blog post is being printed to go into my new Smash book, too!

I have another new song that particularly touched me today.

Forgetting the Past – God’s Ominous Power

           *Philippians 3:13 “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,”  and
        *Philippians 4:8  “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
I haven’t written for some time so I’ve been thinking and praying.  During this time of year there are many memories, some good and some bad.  So many countless memories God has healed.  I’ve been told time and again that it seemed that I brought up the past too much as if I wasn’t forgetting and moving on.  But, I don’t believe that is exactly what this scripture means.  How many of you fondly remember times past?  I believe memories of many things are good for our hearts.  It’s the sting of bad memories that we need to forget.  That is where the healing comes into place.  If, while remembering, we have an awful time with tears, resentment, guilt and on and on, then this is where we should go to our Father in heaven and ask Him how these memories may be healed.  I have written through some while in prayer.  I have just thought through some while in prayer and the sting never returned.  And, I have started to remember awful things from my past that He just completely removed all of the hurt and pain from without me even having to work through them.
        *1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
Many of my memories come to mind to share from my past prison experience from 1988-90.  I’ve had friends come to me with worrisome looks regarding this.  But God healed any and all of the sting from these memories years upon years ago.  The memories that are noble, just, pure, lovely, and etc… from this experience are too numerous to count.  I’m learning through not only my experience but also the experiences of others (namely a cousin who was stationed with her husband in the service in Saudi Arabia) that the work of the Holy Spirit as comforter, teacher and friend seems so much more profound in times of absolute need.  Prison is a place where God became more real to me than any of you are or even my husband, mother, father, brothers.  He walked with me and talked with me.  I sat on my bunk and learned from Him as if He sat beside me in the flesh.
         *Philippians 4:19  “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
And people slight God.  And I slighted God.  I was reluctant to believe in His power.  I can honestly say that I never doubted His existence.   I doubted His power!  Until prison I just didn’t get His power and His love shown to me through His willingness to provide for ALL OF MY NEEDS no matter what those needs are.
We look in our own wisdom and give Him limits but by His wisdom and knowledge He created us and this entire world.
        *Proverbs 3: 19, 20 “By wisdom the Lord founded the earth;
by understanding He created the heavens.  By His knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the dew settles beneath the night sky.”

By His wisdom/knowledge He is able to do anything!  I could go on and on about prison and all of the ways He blessed me in there.  But, one instance that stands out amongst so many is a time in 1989 when the sun hadn’t shown for days, weeks, well it had been probably 3 weeks (if you know Ohio, you’d understand).  I was walking to the cafeteria, talking to the Lord in my mind about this fact.  I told Him that I’d just love to see the sunshine.  Right at that moment, the clouds parted and the sun shone down on me, just me.  I had two friends with me at that point that watched it happen.  Why would I want to forget that?  What good would be done by me forgetting that?  But, what good may be done by me remembering that?  I remember how willing my Papa was to provide for my needs and even some of my wants because He is my Papa.
        *Matthew 7:11  “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Yesterday, I remembered and looked for a used CD to purchase called “Our Hymns”.  A song came to mind from it that comforted my heart so much during this time of need.  My folks had send me a walkman and periodically send some cassette tapes.  I remember lying on that top bunk listening to that cassette tape and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit I was (in my mind’s eye) transported out the window onto the roof and free within my spirit.  It was like that prison disappeared!
And, when I am sitting here at my computer, disabled by the world, alone in this computer room/studio for the umpteenth hour this week I can remember those times and He brings His peace once again.

*John 14:27  “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

And through this PAST experience, I KNOW that if I could find His peace in that situation, that I or anyone can find His peace any time.  We need to work with our Father to gain healing from past experiences so we may forget them.  But to learn from them, remembering those things that help us to meditate on things that are pure, lovely, etc...

*2 Corinthians 12:10 “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

My Mom-in-Law Share

       I’ve decided that I need to share this finding with the followers of this blog.  Hoping it will give you an “ah” moment in your mundane Tuesday.  My mother-in-law was promoted to glory on 8-16-11.  She was 80 years old, had a short lived elevation in her illness and went home to be with the Lord where she’d dreamed of being for some years now.  I’m thankful that she was seemingly comfortable for a good long time here on this earth and that we know that she is now even more comfortable, pain and tear free in heaven.

          While going through the things at her home we came upon a poem that she had written for me.  My mind fails me as to whether I’d been given it before since I can’t say that I recognize it.  I can say that it brought tears when we found it this time.

Juliana

You came into the life of my son
God assured me my rearing was done;
When you met him, and brightened his life,
Later, you became my son’s dear wife.

So here you are, a ways down the road,
You have both shouldered a heavy load;
Though Devil has thrown some nasty darts,
He can’t penetrate your Godly hearts.

Don’t dwell on the sickness or rough times,
Just trust in the Lord, and you’ll be fine;
Jesus is there, in laughter and tears,
He will stay with you, throughout the years!

Happy Birthday!!!! (#29 and holding)
Love, and God bless you, Mom

          The one thing that I’ve never forgotten in our 20 year marriage and will undoubtedly remember to my own grave is that my mother-in-law found out about my past, including the prison time during the week of our marriage.  She didn’t bat an eye.  Mom just said that she was happy that her son found a Godly wife.  And, that is the way that it should be!

I don’t have a specific video to go along with this post but thought I’d just share a song that continues to bless me and I truly believe is my favorite of all time.  I’ve been told again and again of its heavy anointing.  Praying you are blessed!

God's Comfort Through Prayer - 2009

Last night several of us were called to prayer. Our pastor's granddaughter had had an accident, was rushed to a specialist and then to surgery. I believe she is 6 or 7 years old. What a privilege it is for that little girl to have so many people praying for her, petitioning the Father for her comfort, care, and healing.

My mind goes back to when I was 8 years old. I was admitted to the hospital for testing with the doctor's concern that I might lose a kidney. At 49 years old, I still find comfort in remembering all the prayers that were said for me. I still many times over, am comforted in the fact that God healed my kidneys through those prayers and I haven't had a kidney infection since. I find comfort in the fact that at that early age, I learned more about the power of God through prayer and what an awesome generous, healing, and loving Father we have.

I pray that this little girl, who is laying in a hospital bed today, will be strengthened within through God's mercy in her speedy recovery and in knowing how much love was poured upon her through the prayers of her extended church family and a loving heavenly Father!

This is just an amazing song share in video that has blessed me and I hope it also blesses you!
